Iran Says It May Return to American Atomic Negotiations if Treated with 'Dignity' and 'Honor'
Tehran is prepared to resume nuclear talks with the United States provided that it is treated with "respect" and "respect", Iran's top diplomat has announced.
Abbas Araghchi declared exclusively dialogue was effective, and revealed recent overtures had originated from intermediaries to reopen talks with the Trump administration. He claimed Iran did not have unreported enrichment locations, and Tehran was not yet able to allow the global atomic watchdog to access bombed nuclear sites for security reasons.
Navigating a Challenging Path
The foreign minister is navigating a complex route since Iran aims to avoid appear to be acting from a stance of vulnerability, and he emphatically stated that Iran had emerged stronger militarily and emotionally from the Israeli-US attack on its enrichment centers in June.
He was talking at a security conference in Tehran where he restated that Iran had "a fundamental entitlement to enrich uranium within its borders that it will perpetually retain" – the primary cause of the impasse in the prior discussions.
Earlier Negotiations Unexpectedly Ended
The prior phases of talks between the United States and Iran were ended suddenly and acrimonious end on 12 June when the Israeli government, with US support, targeted Iran's enrichment centers in a fortnight-long engagement that concluded with the US president asserting the sites had been destroyed. Following this, EU nations exercised their right to reinstate global restrictions, but Iran insists they have not had a significant effect.
Magic Solution Offered
Iranian officials claimed they felt they had achieved a "ideal resolution" to the uranium processing matter in prior discussions, when it was decided an Iran-based consortium with American involvement could enrich uranium. The two nations would have been able to assert triumph since local refinement would have persisted and the US could be assured that Iran's atomic project was solely for peaceful purposes.
It had not been decided in the negotiations that US nuclear scientists could work on Iranian soil, but that was a reasonable assumption of the partnership suggestion. Representatives stated three times they had secured an understanding with Washington's diplomat the US official only for the arrangement to collapse due to "spoilers in Washington".
Present Status
Iran's diplomats said the cooperative arrangement was now off the table, but it seems quite possible the proposal could be reintroduced in various formats if discussions reopen.
The US president in recent days said he had been obtaining communications that Iran wanted to reopen negotiations, but privately Iran's diplomats claim they are not yet getting coherent offers from America either straightforwardly or from key regional mediators, such as Qatar, Egypt, Oman and the Saudi kingdom. The Iran's state department has been accused of inactivity in the face of Washington's unmediated tactics, but Iran states negotiations is not part of a spectacle.
Diplomatic Position
In his speech to the conference, designed to depict the US as a hegemonic power that exploits the idea of international law, Araghchi declared the two-week conflict demonstrated the conflict could not be resolved by armed force. He said the assaults began with a Washington's ultimatum for an unconditional Iranian surrender and culminated with an absolute demand for a ceasefire.
Iran is assured the opening assaults from Tel Aviv were carried out with complete American awareness and cooperation, making faith challenging to restore.
Diplomacy Stays the Final Solution
The foreign minister said: "Tehran was not the one that had abandoned dialogue; it was the United States and the Western nations that had repeatedly tried to impose their demands during the negotiations. Negotiations can still be active and stays the primary answer to resolve disagreements, but its standards, guidelines and fundamentals must be respected."
"If they speak to the citizens of Tehran with the approach of dignity and honor, they will receive a answer in the identical tone."
Repair and Rebuilding
In what is described by Tehran representatives as the struggle of restoration and reconstruction, the foreign minister stated he was confident Iran's defence capabilities "are considerably enhanced than before 13 or 14 June of this year. All our capabilities have been rebuilt. We gained numerous insights from this engagement; we have discovered our internal vulnerabilities and the weaknesses of the opponent."
He stated: "We effectively endured this war. Our atomic expertise, which they planned to eliminate, continues to exist. The facilities and equipment, if damaged, will be reconstructed; what is crucial is the determination of the nation of Iran and then the national cohesion that they targeted, but did not succeed to break. The nation of Iran have developed more powerful, more united, and more backing of the administration and the nation in the aftermath of this invasion."
